A Lucky Dog Is a Rescued Dog
Lucky dogs are rescued from the Hutchinson Animal Shelter. These dogs are lucky because this is a second chance for them. The dogs are temperament tested and only friendly dogs are entered into the Lucky Dog program.
A Lucky Dog Is a Trained Dog
Lucky Dogs receive training from inmates at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. The dogs are taught basic obedience commands and learn to come, sit, lay down, and stay. They are housebroken, crate trained, and are taught to walk on a leash.
This is a 2nd chance for the lucky dogs, and is also a 2nd chance for the prisoners. Inmates selected to participate in this program are given the opportunity to give back to their community by helping to train dogs that would likely otherwise be euthanized. The inmates that train the dogs are selected based on their performance in prison. They must be on their best behavior in order to participate in the program.
The Lucky Dog program is run by Friends of Animals in Need. If you would like to contact the Lucky Dog Program please call Connie or Vicky at the below numbers:
